My journey in public service began over 30 years ago as a social worker. Throughout my career, I've worn many hats—from foster parent to social worker, non-profit executive, and now on the Island County Commission. Higher prices for gas, groceries, health care and housing – what are we to do? In the State Senate, I’ll work to make sure housing, healthcare and childcare are within reach. I will work to lower the cost of basic needs and proactively target unfair price gouging by big corporations.&nbsp;I recognize the importance of the internet for families and have successfully worked to bring affordable, accessible connectivity to businesses and homes. I have worked locally and at the State level to bring investments and training for small businesses, ensuring jobs and fair wages.&nbsp; As a County Commissioner, I prioritized sustainable development and will work to build housing for working families and seniors.

Lowering costs for working families

Women’s freedom to make their own health care decisions are under attack at all levels of government. Unlike the incumbent, I’m proud to be 100% pro-choice and my commitment to abortion access and reproductive freedom will never waiver.

As an Island County Commissioner, I led the effort to stop the closure of Whidbey Health and protect the Women’s Health Clinic. I know how important access to healthcare is in rural communities and will never stop fighting to make sure these facilities remain open. I will fight for affordable, accessible healthcare and to reduce the cost of prescription drugs, especially for disabled people, seniors and people on fixed incomes.

We live in one of the most beautiful parts of Washington – it’s truly God’s Country. And it is key to our recreation and economy – tourism, fishing and economic development rely on our natural resources and unparalleled beauty.&nbsp; I’m focused on making sure we have clean air to breathe and clean water to drink. I’m a fierce protector of salmon and our iconic orca population and will continue to support restoration and tribal rights. As an Island County Commissioner, I passed the first Climate Change Resolution committing to take specific and measurable actions to address climate change, align our work with current science and make continual efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

I’m proud of my record on public safety. I’ve voted consistently to give the Island County Sheriff more resources and to strengthen our criminal justice system. I’ll always support our first responders. We’re also in the middle of a drug epidemic – the fentanyl crisis is like nothing we’ve ever seen. In Olympia, I’ll work to provide resources to law enforcement and our joint responders for compassionate, effective results. And, to be clear, I would have been a “NO” vote on changing the standards around police pursuits – police must be able to do their jobs.

Supporting Law Enforcement

Serving those who have served

I was a teacher and all of my children went to public schools. We are a family that values education.&nbsp;&nbsp;Funding our schools is the paramount duty for our state but it is falling short.&nbsp; The amount per student has not kept pace with inflation. I am hearing fears from teachers for their safety.&nbsp; With investments to secure our schools, we can ensure safety for all schools in our state.We must support career and technical education. Northwest Washington's preeminent get out the vote weekend continues with the gotMV Volunteer Rally.&nbsp;Volunteers will hear from leaders and speakers about the issues and opportunities to make a difference.&nbsp; Participants will have access to campaign literature and lists, volunteer training, and a chance to learn. &nbsp;Particular emphasis will be given to the 10th LD races for Janet St Clair, Dave Paul and Clyde Shavers, but the goal is to get out the vote for all the Democratic priorities on the ballot.&nbsp;&nbsp; After the rally, plan to knock doors for several hours. I will work to make real progress on affordable housing, and to lower the cost of necessities like food, medicine, and childcare.&nbsp; I will proactively target unfair price gouging by big corporations that limits your ability to get the care you need.”&nbsp;St. Clair spent 30 years as a social worker working in the non-profit sector while also serving as a volunteer foster parent, helping at-risk children find stability and permanency in their lives. Currently serving her second term as county commissioner, St. Clair has delivered real results for our community, working with both Democrats and Republicans. She secured funding for high-speed broadband Internet for rural communities, ensured funding commitments to build housing that seniors and working families can afford to live in, increased funding for the County Sheriff’s Office so it has the resources it needs to keep us safe, and strengthened Island County’s services to the community.As chair of the Island County Board of Health, St. Clair led the effort to stop the closure of Whidbey Health and protect the Women’s Health Clinic. She knows how important access to healthcare is in rural communities and will never stop fighting to make sure women can make their own healthcare decisions, free from political interference or geographic limits.&nbsp;“Women’s health care decisions are under attack at all levels of government,” said St. Clair. “Unlike the incumbent, I’m proud to be 100% pro-choice, and my commitment to women and reproductive freedom will never waiver.”&nbsp;“We live in one of the most beautiful parts of Washington —&nbsp; it’s truly God’s Country. She’s increased Veterans Services officers in Island County and worked to deliver health and mental health services for those who served.&nbsp;“I was taught at a young age to honor veterans,” she continued. “Sadly, our government hasn’t always lived up to that promise.
